How to Register: 

1. To register for Spring II (Summer Classes and Camps as well) classes please click register here to create an account and select the class you are signing up for. 

2. Payment can be made for the class online, credit card or cash/check.

Attention Blue Door Customers: Due to scheduling purposes, those who do not register for class at least 7 days before the starting date will be charged a $10 late fee.

 

Payment Policy for Classes, Camps, and Workshops: If a payment is made and a request for reimbursement is made prior to the start of a camp/class/workshop, Blue Door Studio will consider the reimbursement based on the timing of the reimbursement request and the number of enrollments in the class/camp/workshop. Each reimbursement request will be responded to as individual requests and will be addressed accordingly.

 

PreK-K Art Camps and Classes for ages 3-6

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 9am – 12pm
Cost: $195
30 Minute yoga class included each week (please complete online waiver form!)

Master Artists
June 24th, 26th, and 28th
Learn about the art styles of Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Klee, Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse and Helen Frankenthaler as you draw, paint, and sculpt!

Art is a Circus!
August, 5th, 7th, and 9th
Get excited to learn of art that is all about the circus when exploring the art of Alexander Calder and Henri Matisse. Make paintings, collages, and sculptures all about the BIG top!

Summer Camps – Full Day Options

For ages 7-12
Monday – Friday: 9am – 3pm

Cost: $375
Includes one time summer $20 registration fee per family, and a free BDS t-shirt per camper

Mix it Up Media
Option 1: June 24th – June 28th
Option 2: August 5th – August 9th – FULL
This full day art camp is about exploring a variety of art media (drawing media and painting media, recycled materials, and clay). It’s all about the creation of drawing and painting and collage projects in the morning and ceramic studio projects in the afternoon (in our NEW ceramics studio), plus one weekly yoga class and drumming class (camper’s option). Grand Finale Art Exhibit on Fridays at 2:45pm.

For ages 7-12

Grand Finale Art Exhibits every Friday at 11:45am

Extended Day Offer (9am – 3pm): Each Half Day Camp Option inludes the opportunity for extended day times (12pm – 3pm) for those campers wanting to take a yoga class and/or a drumming class.

Extended Day Options:
Yoga Mondays: $30 extra, pick up at 3pm
Drumming Thursdays: $30 extra, pick up at 3pm
OR $55 for both classes in one week

Art Around the World

Travel the world creating art as magnificent as your imagination. Each day we will visit a different country and experience its arts and culture creating art pieces along the way! Join us and fill your artist passport with fun!

Fun City
July 15th – July 19th
Ever wanted to create your own city structure or tree house? This is your opportunity to learn about architecture, drawing, painting and building.  We will be looking at cityscapes, buildings and bridge designs to help us create our own structures.

Animation Design
Option 1: July 15th – July 19th
Option 2: Augugst 5th – August 9th – FULL
This week is for students who are looking to bring their designs to life!  We will work with character design and animation. Students will use tools and techniques to make their art interactive. We use free apps to explore stop motion animation, cut paper animation, and claymation as we develop characters and narratives! Students are required to bring their own iPad or iPhone.
Materials Needed: a stylus pen, an iPhone or  iPad (required for participation in this camp) and please have the following apps downloaded: Animation Desk and Animation Desk.

Fashion Week
July 22nd – July 26th
Campers will create mood boards, figure drawings and clothing lines created from the camper’s own individualized fashion sense!  Grand Finale Fashion Show for family and friends to enjoy and see!

August 12th – August 16th

Explore the depths of the ocean! Create Paper Mache sea creatures, paintings and much more as you draw, paint and sculpt from your imagination!

Digital Design – NEW

Time: 12pm-3pm
Materials Needed: a stylus pen,  iPad (required for participation in this class), and a 9 in. x 12 in. spiral bound sketchbook
Students will create characters, landscapes, and a three-panel comic strip digitally using their Apple iPad with an app called Autodesk Sketchbook!

Ceramic Camps – Half Days

IMPORTANT: When firing pieces in the kiln, Blue Door Studio is not responsible for quality damage during firing, which is sometimes an unpredictable and uncontrollable occurrence due to air bubbles, glaze applications, etc.

Please Note: Ceramics classes require sneakers, no flip-flops, and tied back hair in ponytails for safety purposes when wheel-throwing.

For ages 7-12

Each week, campers create new ceramic projects, using hand-building skills and wheel throwing methods as well. Unique opportunities to practice both here in Smithfield, RI!

Art is an adventure when you begin exploring new art materials and methods!  Our young artists will be introduced to drawing, painting and sculpting media while they learn about master artists’ art pieces and styles. This multi sensory based class will also focus on literacy and art vocabulary!  Students will be given multiple opportunities to express themselves through a variety of media and art discussions with their peers.

Art Adventures in Drawing and Painting

for grades : 1 – 3

Students age 6 can be recommended by a BDS Art Instructor for this class.

Mondays: (4:00pm – 6:00pm) : June 24th, July 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, August 5th, 12th, and 19th

Saturdays:  (9:30am – 11:30am) : June 29th, July 13th, 20th, 27th, August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th

This action packed art class focuses on this age group’s multi – sensory approach to learning. Our young  artists will expand upon their use of art vocabulary when they learn about the design elements of line, shape, textures and color seen in the works  of master artists: Picasso, Miro, Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and many more!  They will also be encouraged to discuss their ideas that they used in their thematic drawings, paintings and sculptures with their fellow art students!

OUR DRAWING AND PAINTING CLASSES for Grades 4-12

Our class levels are sequentially based to advance the students’ skills and techniques 

 

Pre-teen – Teen Foundations

for ages 11-17

Wednesdays: (4:00pm – 6:00pm) : June 26th, July 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, August 7th, 14th, and 21st

Saturdays:  (9:30am – 11:30am) : June 29th, July 13th, 20th, 27th, August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th

8 week session

Cost: $310,plus $20 summer registration fee

This class is an introductory class to drawing and painting skills. It progresses from level Foundations Level 1- Level 4,  allowing  the students to experience a variety of media and lessons from session to session.  The students’ lessons will focus on the design elements and principles of art, as well as drawing and painting. The students will be introduced to a variety of drawing media (pencil, ink, pastels) and painting media (watercolor and acrylics) as they utilize the elements of designs and principles in their creative compositions!  Drawing from observation is strongly encouraged in order to train the eyes of the artist as he or she  draws / paints from life.

~Please note:  Students are divided into age groups within this class to meet the developmental and social needs of students in the class.

Advanced Art / Portfolio Class * Please note change from brochure 

for grades 9-12

Session 1:
Tuesdays: (3:00 pm – 6:30 pm) : June 25th, July 9th, 16th, and 23rd

Session 2:
Tuesdays: (3:00 pm – 6:30 pm): July 30th, August 6th, 13th, and 20th

Cost: $210, plus $20 summer registration fee

This advanced level class is for students who have had previous drawing and painting experiences  in the Adv. Art Level 1 class and who are eager to further develop their drawing and painting skills. Students will advance their drawing skills through the use of various drawing media (pencil, pen and ink, charcoal and chalks) and techniques ( contour line drawing, shading and color blending ) when they explore the traditional subject matter of still life, landscapes and figure portraiture. They will also develop their painting skills when they use their understanding of color theory (color wheel, value, warm and cool colors, intermediate and complementary colors) in their work. Various styles of artists will be shown to inspire the students’ conceptual thinking skills, as well as their use of technical skills in their own creations.  The students are given many opportunities to choose their own subject matter and media for their drawings and paintings in this class!  This is a great class for students interested in the possible opportunity of participating in RI Scholastics Art and Writing Competition and the Jim Langevin Art Competition each year.  This is also a great course for students  interested in creating an art portfolio for college.
